Can you tell us about Trutex and the role you play in school wear today?
 
Trutex is over 160 years old and is one of the UKs best loved schoolwear brands. Mostly known for school branded items, we also have a wide range of plain items like shirts, trousers and skirts. We work with 1000’s of schools across the country, 100’s of retailers and also sell online through our own website and other marketplaces.


Quality is clearly at the heart of everything you do. What makes a Trutex uniform different, and why is durability so important to you?
 
With students wearing their uniform for around 200 days each school year, our “Made to Last” promise gives parents and students confidence that their garments will stand the test of time — without needing replacement halfway through the year. This offers real value for money. Our heritage in premium clothing inspires us to create high-quality schoolwear that often gets outgrown before it wears out. And through our pre-loved service, we’re giving uniforms a second life. Whether passed down to siblings, resold through schools, or exchanged via our own pre-loved programme, these garments are made to last — and last. In fact, we regularly see items returned to us over seven years old that are still fit to wear today!

Sustainability is a growing priority for many families. How is Trutex working to reduce its environmental impact?
 
Trutex has been a carbon-neutral business since 2012 — and we’re committed to going even further. Each year, we set targets through our carbon reduction plan as part of our ongoing mission to reach net zero. We’ve taken action across our business to minimise the use of single-use plastics. Recently, we eliminated all plastic internal packaging from our shirts and blouses — removing plastic clips — and now ensure all hangers and plastic bags contain at least 30% recycled materials. We’re also transitioning our consumer mailing bags from recycled plastic to fully paper-based alternatives.
 
On the product side, we’re proud to use 100% recycled polyester in our blazers, trousers, and skirts — giving post-consumer plastic bottles a new life instead of sending them to landfill. Alongside sustainably sourced viscose and cotton in our knitwear, we continue to explore innovative ways to reduce our environmental footprint and protect the planet for future generations.
 

Back-to-school season can be hectic. Do you have any top tips or advice for parents getting prepared?

Order as early as you can, avoid the long queues and stock shortages! Yes children grow, but if you order with that in mind, you can then relax for the rest of the holidays knowing the job is done.  Trutex also offer a 90 day return policy over the summer months so parents can mitigate any late summer growth spurts.


Can you tell us more about your ‘Nurture the Future’ programme and why supporting young people beyond the school gates matters to Trutex?

Our mission extends far beyond the school gates. Supporting schools, parents, and young people — and helping them prepare for the future — is at the heart of everything we do. We’re continually developing ways to offer meaningful support, whether by providing sports kits for teams, donating uniform to families in need, or working with charities and uniform banks to help ensure every child gets the same start in school life. Our commitment also extends to the planet. Through our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, we’re focused on reducing our environmental impact and playing our part in protecting the future for generations to come.

It's so great to chat with you. 😀Can you tell us a bit about FINDRA and what inspired you to create the brand? Hello! FINDRA was born out of a desire to combine my love of the outdoors with my background in design. As a keen mountain biker and someone who’s always found solace and inspiration in nature, I realised there was a gap in the market for well-designed, functional clothing for women that didn’t compromise on style or sustainability. I wanted to create clothing that felt good to wear, looked good, and performed across a range of activities — pieces that could take you from a bike ride in the hills to a coffee with friends. That was the spark behind FINDRA: a brand built around the idea of connection — to ourselves, to others, and to the natural world. Sustainability is at the heart of FINDRA. Can you share some of the key ways you ensure your clothing is kind to the planet? Right from the start, I wanted to create clothing that considered its environmental impact at every stage. We use natural, biodegradable fibres like merino wool and ethically sourced lambswool, which are not only better for the planet but also offer amazing performance benefits.  Our products are made in small batches, often here in the UK, to reduce waste and support local manufacturing. We design with longevity in mind — both in terms of style and durability — so that our customers buy less, but better. Every decision we make is guided by a desire to tread more lightly on the Earth. FINDRA is built to last and to love. How do you approach creating timeless pieces rather than following fast fashion trends? I come from a background in fashion and textiles, so I understand the pressure of trends — but I also know how fleeting they are. At FINDRA, we focus on creating pieces that are beautifully made, functional, and versatile — items you’ll reach for season after season. We’re inspired by the colours and textures of the natural world, which never go out of style. And we listen closely to our customers, making sure our clothing fits real lives and real bodies. It’s about creating a wardrobe that works for you, not the other way around. From wild walks to weekend bike rides, FINDRA champions the simple joy of getting outside. What’s your favourite way to recharge in nature? I find so much peace and perspective from being outside — it’s where I feel most grounded. I also love a bracing walk in the hills with my dog — just being in the fresh air, feeling the elements on your skin, noticing the seasons change — it’s incredibly restorative.
