Conversation With Wanderlust Wine
During my travels back in the day, I noticed many fantastic wines I discovered abroad weren’t available in the UK. So I asked myself, "what if I can bring them to the UK?” This is how the concept of Wanderlust Wine was born! Simple as that, I put together a plan, shared my ideas with some sommeliers and wine professionals in town, and eventually started sourcing a warehouse for the wines!
From carbon-neutral delivery to eco packaging, sustainability is clearly a big part of what you do. What practices are you most proud of so far?
Definitely the "Wine by Sail" project — shipping wines from Portugal to the UK using 100% wind power, simply reducing carbon emissions and marine disturbance. We’ve also added two electric vans for London deliveries. It’s all part of our mission to reduce carbon footprint while delivering great wines. Learn more here.
Your wine subscription sounds like a brilliant way to explore new bottles. How does it work, and what can people expect when they sign up?
Our subscription brings you off-the-beaten-path wines from small, independent producers, exclusive to Wanderlust in the UK. Each case includes tasting notes, food pairing ideas and a few extra wine geek treats. A fun, no-pressure way to discover brilliant bottles every 2 months.
You work with small, independent winemakers from across the globe. How do you discover them and decide which wines to bring into the Wanderlust collection?
We travel, we taste and we reach out to winemakers whose work excites us. If it’s sustainable, made with integrity, and offers something delicious, we want to bring it to the UK market! Our goal is simple: bring outstanding sustainably-made wines from independent producers to the UK — always fairly priced.
And finally, for someone trying Wanderlust Wine for the first time, are there any must-try bottles you’d recommend? 🍷
Start with Chamans Les Nonnes, a white wine from Languedoc that is fresh and rich with a lovely texture. Think green apple, lychee, and citrus zest with a touch of basking spice. All grapes are famed biodynamically and the wines are made with a low intervention approach, it was praised in Decanter as “Top 3 Languedoc White with excellent value compared to wines of similar quality from the Rhône, Burgundy, or California.” For red, I'd recommend the Panoramico Red Rioja. Unlike the usual old-school style bold Rioja, this is a juicy, soft, elegant and modern take on Rioja, made from almost-forgotten century-old vines!
